One of the card games that I got to play in class was Exploding kittens. It was my first time playing the card game and it was very interesting. The game had cards with an exploding kitten on them, and those are cards every player is avoiding. There were also a few cards that were marked as defuse cards, which help players from losing the game. The rest of the cards had actions or rules on them. On page 47 of this week's reading, Nathan Atlice says "manufacturing improvements have refined the card's texture over centuries." Improvements have caused cards to now have rounded corners because it reduces wear and tear and they are easier to handle. I like that exploding kittens has cards with rounded corners. It does make a difference. The play space is very interesting and hard to explain because it's so different from other card games. Players are basically trying to avoid exploding kittens because if you pick one up, you die. You are suppose to stay alive as long as possible, which basically means you want to stay in the game until you are the last one. On page 37 and 38, Nathan Atlice speaks about playing cards and how they are two sides to them that are planar. One side is suppose to be hidden and the other side, usually has a pattern on it of some sort. He states that many games, such as poker are played that way and exploding kittens is played that way as well. To play, a draw pile is put in the middle to start. Then each player is given eight cards each. Players keep their cards private and try to save their good cards as long as possible. One player goes first and has to put a card down on the table and the group/person has to do whatever the cards states. Once you draw a card from the draw pile, then the next person gets to take their turn. The game goes on until everyone has exploded, but one person and that final person wins.
The game I chose from the Watch it Played channel is Chronicles of Crime: 2400. The play space of this game is neat because it takes place in futuristic setting. The year is 2400 and there are robots and cyber space. The game comes with an evidence board and many cool looking cards. There are character, special items, and evidence category cards. There are also a set of location cards and a card with your companion on it. In the reading by Atlice, he brings up that card games physically and online card games are just not the same and the experience can even differ. Chronicles of Crime is really cool because you get game scenarios and other features through a Chronicles of Time app. I enjoy card games, that also include an online element. What thematic element this game has is cybernetic enhancements, which is really awesome. It adds to the theme of the game and helps your character with investigating. This element is completely exclusive to Chronicles of Crime: 2400, as no other game in the series has such enhancements.
